Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam

Wayfinding consultancy for
the biggest hospital in
The Netherlands

Erasmus University Medical Center is the main hospital in Rotterdam. An ambitious enlargement plan, with a new 30 storey tower, recently made it the largest hospital in The Netherlands. Such an enlargement will see the amount of patients and visitors increase dramatically.

A series of studies were carried out to foresee the amount of information that had to be shown to patients and visitors, and where it had to be shown.

This project was carried out within the Mijksenaar team.

A series of user journeys was devised to understand the different steps visitors or patients take. These journeys helped the management of the hospital to see how the future wayfinding system should work to guide users through the hospital.
